Greatly popular with social media, these are the epic beach-swings we all know and love. Southeast Asia is famous for tropical beaches and chill-out, and beach swings are often a reason to travel thousands of miles. Indeed, there is nothing better than gently swinging in the rhythm of the sea breeze while watching the sun slowly setting down…Let’s dig into all we know about the Top Beach Swings in Asia.
1.INDONESIA – GILI TRAWANGAN
Strikingly beautiful, with glorious sugar-white sands lapped by warm, brilliant- blue waters, the Gili archipelago is a magnet for tourists from every corner of the world. More isles than islands, these three little dots in the Bali Sea, not far from the shores of Lombok, truly manifest a paradise.
Gili Trawangan is the largest one, and with an image of a “party island,” it is extremely popular with backpackers. The Ombak Sunset & The Exile are definitely the most photographed sea swings in Southeast Asia.
TRAVEL TIP
If you spend a few days in Bali make sure you pop in the Charly’s Chocolate Swing By The Sea in Candidasa. Try some home-made goodies, have a chat with friendly locals, take a stroll through a coconut grove and have a swing by the sea!
2.THAILAND – KO YAO
Majestically rising out of the Andaman Sea, the untouched twin-islands of Ko Yao are on every itinerary across Thailand. The dramatic scenery – both on land and underwater – attracts sailors, yachters, snorkelers and scuba divers. Ko Hong is a tiny limestone islet and a popular day trip for its hidden lagoon, white sands, turquoise sea and a lovely beach swing, of course.
3.CAMBODIA – KOH RONG
With the reputation of ‘Secret Islands,’ Koh Rong is not a secret anymore. The pristine islands of Cambodia are now known for long, white stretches, glowing plankton, beachfront bungalows, magnificent sunsets, swings and hammocks overlooking the calm seas.
Whereas the smaller Koh Rong Sanloem is a real castaway whose shores are dotted with hammocks, the big brother – Koh Rong – has become a household name among backpackers. Beach swings are popping up like mushrooms, yet the favourite one can be found on the Nature Beach.
4.PHILIPPINES – EL NIDO
Similarly to Thailand, the Philippines were blessed with breathtaking limestone islands and dream seascapes. This is especially true in Palawan.
El Nido is home to some of the most splendid lagoons and inlets, staggering karst formations, lush jungle, radiant fish and coral reefs. El Nido Bay is the tourist hotspot with instafamous beach swings, and looking at the picture one will instantly understand why.
5.VIETNAM – PHU QUOC
Phu Quoc is a stunning offshore island in southern Vietnam, previously rated as “The Cleanest and Most Beautiful Beach in the World” by ABC News. Indeed, with unspoiled nature, dense rainforest, azure seas and snow-white beaches, Phu Quoc is a perfect destination for any holidaymaker.
Sao Beach, with the spring-water clarity, might be fairly remote but absolutely worth of the drive – grab a chilled drink at one of the seaside taverns and hop on a palm-swing.
6.MALDIVES
Images of the glorious Maldives atolls keep appearing on all international travel magazine covers. No wonder – the private-sandbar luxury surrounded by cyan shallows is hard to find anywhere else in the world.
The Maldives might well have become a cliché, yet it is timeless. Only recently, however, sea swings have started springing up across the upscale holiday resorts. For instance, The Anatara Veli has received most likes so far, but there surely will be more swings in the sea soon.
7.LOMBOK – TANJUNG AAN
The southern coast of Lombok is something to look at with lots of delight. Large emerald lagoons, filled with calm, crystal-clear waters of a pleasant temperature, are appreciated by scuba divers and snorkelers, while the powerful swell of an open ocean make Lombok be the place to be among surfers.
Destination Kuta should not be confused with the one in Bali. Kuta-Lombok presents a virgin coastline covered with phenomenal beaches. Tanjung Aan is the one with a fabulous swing surely one of the top beach swings in Asia, if you can find it!
8.MYANMAR – NYAUNG OO PHEE
Only lately opened to the Western World, Myanmar is the best-kept secret in Southeast Asia. Celebrated for its golden pagodas and ancient temples, Burma is not just about monks and monasteries; there are magnificent beaches, too.
In fact, the untrodden bays of the Mergui archipelago became world-famous as James Bond filming location (Thunderball in 1965). Today, the islands have grown into little paradises. Still somehow humble yet delightful, there are myriads of boat charters that will take you to your very own idyll, and a lone beach swing. Nyaung Oo Phee is one of them.
9.SRI LANKA – UNAWATUNA
Wild Indian Ocean beaches are some of Sri Lanka`s highlights. Unawatuna is a mind-blowing location and the major tourist attraction. Not only when it comes to beaches and corals – albeit the coastline is the island`s strength – there are also historical sites and abundant jungles in the hinterland.
Dotted with hotels, restaurants, and bars, Unawatuna is ideal for both relaxation and entertainment. Take a ride on the rustic yet original palm-swing being followed by a couple of sunset drinks.
10.MALAYSIA – BATU BUROK BEACH IN TERENGGANU
Although swings and hammocks are typically associated with island escapes Malaysia is an exception. The triple-swing at Pantai Batu Burok is a new attraction of Kuala Terengganu.
The northeast coast of Malaysia is little visited by the Westerners but locally very much liked. Not exactly sumptuous, yet affordable and relatively tranquil, it is a great place for undisturbed vacations spent at the resort pool, basking on the beach, feasting on the finger-licking Malay food and enjoying a peaceful sunset swing.
